|PAUL POON CELEBRATES SIXTH CTM MACAU TOURING CAR CUP WIN|
Hong Kong driver Paul Poon Tak Chun celebrated a sixth victory in the long-running CTM Macau Touring Car Cup, winning the 2016 edition of the race in a Peugeot RCZ ahead of Macao driver Filipe C. De Souza in a Chevrolet Cruze and fellow Hong Kong driver Alexander Fung Kar Chue, also in a Peugeot RCZ.
Poon, who started from pole, held the lead at the start of the 12-lap race, with De Souza and Samson Fung Man Wai of Hong Kong in a Peugeot RCZ behind him. On Lap 3, Fung spun and hit the barrier at Mandarin, bringing out the Safety Car.
When racing resumed two laps later, Poon continued to lead the race, with De Souza and Celio Alves Dias of Macao in a Mini Cooper S behind him. But the Safety Car was soon called out for a second time following an incident on Turn 1.
Two laps later, racing resumed once again and it was on Lap 9 that Alexander Fung Kar Chue, who had been running in fourth, got past Alves Dias to take the final podium position. De Souza continued to battle Poon for the lead, but it was Poon who took the chequered flag – just half a second ahead of his rival – to celebrate a second straight and sixth victory at Macao.
